My moulds are *not good*

I've now realised that patching up holes in the side of the boat is a horrible idea and id be much better off to cast the hull and deck as seperate peices because goodness me look at the abomonation in the photo below. Now, not all issues are just the hole, there are other problems too:

Firstly I didn't fill in/sand off the grooves in my blank fully because i though the texture would be cool, however I don't really like it and also the rough surface makes it incredibly easy for tiny air bubbles to form which sort of look like sea erosion or urchins or something but mainly just look like shit. To fix that i think I'm going to fill and sand the gaps on my blank so i can make a new set of moulds, and also sand the plaster of these moulds a bit so that i can at least use part of them. below you can see a close up of the bubbles.

I also think i probably didn't shake the mould enough which would help with getting all the trapped air out a lot so I'll make extra sure I do that in future.

The second problem was that my plaster wasn't dry which is why some bits (like you can see above) stuck an tore making the hole even worse, not that I would've been able to patch it anyway what a daft idea.

Thirdly because the clay shrinks as it drys it gripped onto the deck section of the mould and i couldn't get it off while it was still wet. i then stupidly left the top parts of the mould off in the midday sun so the top of the boats dried and cracked while the bottom was still kept wet because it was touching the less than dry plaster. I'll admit the cracking does look pretty cool but its not what i was going for and not what i want for my main final outcome so it needs a rethink (which will be to cast the deck and hull separately.)

Basically it was a bit of a learning experience (aka I fucked it up) so i need to remake parts of these moulds (I'll pour plaster in the current spout and make a new top mould section with a massive spout) and also make a set of new ones so i can cast 4 boats at once so I can make loads and not run out of time. hopefully. My new moulds will be two part and just be the hull no decks in sight.
