I've also been toying with the idea of making figures to inhabit the boats, and seeing as i need to make at least something out of metal I might cast these in pewter. I started by doing some drawings and trying to get a real simple character which I could then refer to when I was making clay ones.

I drew this digitally and that has no significance whatsoever. It just makes it easier to change the colours (and click undo) and I hadn't drawn on the computer in a while so I wanted to have a go again.

Here's the clay one that I made. set up in various positions on the back of the boats. I'm not sure i got the scale quite right as he doesn't look like he could really fit in the cabins. Also he's (and I don't want to offend him here) a little bit too cutesy and like bric-à-brac for my liking so I'm going to have to find something else to make out of metal. It looks like the kind of thing you would fin in a tourist shop by the seaside, which maybe is a good thing, but also making something like that leaves a sour taste in the mouth. bless him though.
